Research on a Simulation Model of a Skywave Over-the-Horizon Radar Sea Echo Spectrum

The capability of a skywave over-the-horizon radar (SWR) to achieve the continuous observation wide range ocean dynamics parameters via single ionospheric reflection has been demonstrated by many scholars. In order expand method SWR detection parameters, simulation model an sea echo spectrum based on Barrick surface scattering cross-section (Barrick model) and 3D ray-tracing method, suitable for narrow-beam, frequency-modulated continuous-wave system (FMCW), was established. Based this model, we simulated ideal contaminated spectra, respectively with electron density data output International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) model. Then, further analyzed effects grazing incidence angle, azimuth angle fetch length cross-sections, retrieval precision wind direction, root-mean-square (RMS) wave height, using calculated results show that these angles cause small expansion contraction cross-section, have no influence but will affect RMS height; is ~2.5 times angle. broadening, ionosphere phase contamination serious broadening shifting spectrum, higher nonlinear term greater contamination.
